Howard fought long and well and he heard applause that made him fight harder. He did not realize that he was fighting himself until it was very nearly too late. Howard did not realize because he could not see. When he decided to fight, he had closed his eyes and he did not open them for nearly 20 years. Howard was a good man who closed his eyes and got lost. Now at 38, he was still lost, but at least he knew it and he knew where he dared never go again. The defender had become a defendant , facing a long prison term.
