More than anything, twelve-year-old Corney wanted to own that goat. But keeping a mischievous, frisky goat out of trouble on Holiday Cay among the terriers, cats, peacocks--and people--was not an easy task. After numerous misadventures and hilarious confusion, Corney knew that he must work out an answer to his problem, which would involve some "growing up" on his part. Set on the Virgin Island of Saint John, the story is filled with the sunny atmosphere of the Caribbean. The angelfish and whelks, the "lion's paw" shell, the kapok tree and the exploding monkey-pistol tree are all part of Corney's tropical home. The island's way of life--its customs, folklore and people--add meaning and pleasure to the story.
